Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: Ref. 8604

Could you please provide an update on the New Hospital Programme at your relevant hospital?

  1. When was the original target set for this to be finished?

Trust response: In October 2020 the Prime Minister announced details of 40 hospitals to be built by 2030.

  1. When was the planning permission applicant submitted?

Trust response: Not applicable – a planning application has not been submitted. The Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme is still at an early stage, and what is to be built, and where, is still to be decided. We have published a shortlist of possible solutions (opens in new window)  for new hospital facilities and are now carrying out detailed analysis of the feasibility of each of these. The programme is following a clear process, with scrutiny and approvals needed from decision makers within the NHS, the government and local authorities, and ongoing patient and public involvement, before the preferred option is agreed.

  1. If planning permission has been granted, what date was that received?

Trust response: Not applicable – a planning application has not been submitted, as above.

  1. Is the project forecast to be completed by the original target date?

Trust response: Yes.

  1. Has a location been identified for the new hospital?

Trust response: No, as the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme is still at an early stage where what is to be built, and where, is still to be decided, as described above.

  1. Please provide information on whether a planning application has been a) submitted b) accepted or rejected.

Trust response: Not applicable – a planning application has not been submitted, as above.
