Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority

Date posted: 10th October 2022

Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCft) is encouraging everyone to make their mental health a priority and ask for help if needed.

With ever increasing pressures, including the cost of living crisis which is set to continue for some time, people living across Lancashire and South Cumbria are being urged to take the time to look after their mental health and prioritise their wellbeing.

Chris Oliver, Interim Chief Executive at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCft) said: “For us it’s really important that we recognise this day to continue raising awareness and to start important conversations.

“Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone. We need to do as much as possible to prevent mental ill-health, as individuals and as a society.

“As a Trust we are encouraging people to talk if they are struggling with their mental health. We, as well as many other services and charities, are here to help. Please remember support is available including our 24 hour mental health crisis line.”

World Mental Health Day is a chance to encourage everyone around the globe to talk and open up about their own mental health. It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem and major depression is thought to be the second leading cause of disability worldwide.

Mental health is just as essential as physical health and talking openly about mental health issues can help break down barriers and help people understand just how common mental illness is. Normalising these, sometimes difficult conversations provides opportunities to correct misconceptions and empower individuals to ask for help when they need it.

Mental health support is available across Lancashire and South Cumbria and is accessible for everybody. You can call the Crisis Line on 0800 953 0110 which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
