Careers and Engagement team: a Holistic Person's Journey through Health and Social Care

Date posted: 13th December 2022

The Careers and Engagement team is piloting workshops, addressing a Holistic Person's Journey through Health and Social Care session with local primary schools across Morecambe Bay. So far, we have had four schools and around 150 students take part in the sessions.

The learning objective of Holistic Persons Journey is for Key Stage 2 students to understand all the different professions in a person's journey through Health and Social Care. During the session, the students work in groups to do tasks that will challenge them and help them learn more about who is helping the person during their journey.

The sessions have been developed in collaboration with the Lancashire and South Cumbria Primary Care Training Hub and have had fantastic feedback from participants and teaching staff.

Kate Flaherty, Year 4 Teacher for Great Wood Primary School, said: “Year 4 children at Great Wood Primary School thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Holistic Person Journey lesson delivered by Sian and Iain. It was an interesting and useful insight into the huge variety of roles within the NHS, extending the children's knowledge and vocabulary and providing a glimpse into the opportunities and experiences within the world of work. The resources and delivery were pitched perfectly for this age group.”

The Holistic Person's Journey through Health and Social Care was first piloted in April with Castle View Primary School in Lancaster. The team has more sessions planned next term and has started to issue a monthly Primary Schools Newsletter to all Primary Schools in the Morecambe Bay footprint.
