Championing a Diverse and Evolving VCFSE Sector
Tracy Hopkins - LSC VCFSE Alliance Chair
"The role of Chair of the VCFSE Alliance is both a privilege and a responsibility I feel deeply. Our sector—vibrant, varied, and endlessly resourceful—plays a critical role in the health and wellbeing of our communities. Yet representing such a diverse landscape is no small task. There is no single story that captures the breadth of what the VCFSE does, no single voice that can speak for every organisation, group, or volunteer who contributes to this ecosystem.
What I can do, however, is draw on my own experience. I’ve seen first-hand the impact our sector has: the lives changed, the barriers removed, the opportunities created, and the hope restored. These experiences shape how I champion the VCFSE—by amplifying the work you do, advocating for the value you bring, and ensuring your contributions are recognised at every level of decision-making.
But as we all know, standing still is not an option.
The Alliance must continue to evolve if it is to remain relevant and effective. Our strength lies in our diversity, and our membership should reflect this. We need to ensure that the Alliance has members with the full spectrum of the VCFSE sector experience and expertise. Welcoming new members who bring fresh perspectives, different experiences, and varied expertise is essential to ensuring we understand the communities we serve.
At the same time, we must stay strategic. Growth for its own sake isn’t the goal. Instead, we need to be thoughtful about how we develop: strengthening networks, deepening collaboration, and ensuring that our collective voice is coherent, credible, and influential.
As we move forward, my commitment as Chair is to continue championing the sector with energy, honesty, and ambition. I want the Alliance to be a place where collaboration is natural, and where our shared purpose drives meaningful change.
The VCFSE sector is one of the greatest assets our communities have. Together, we can ensure that its impact is not only recognised but strengthened for the future."
