1. What is the estimated cost of the new hospital the Trust is due to build?
Trust response: I can confirm that the Trust holds draft information that you have asked for, however this is contingent on ongoing discussions with the national New Hospital Programme team. Such information is exempt from disclosure because it is intended for future publication. We are not obliged under section 22 of the FOIA to provide information that is intended for future publication. We will publish once we have final information.
2. How much money has currently been spent by the Trust on this new hospital?
Trust response: Since 2020 and as of March 2023, £5.18million has been spent on developing the new hospital scheme on behalf of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Preston Hospital) and £5.18million has been spent on developing the new hospital scheme on behalf of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Lancaster Infirmary, with investment in Furness General Hospital’s infrastructure). In total, £10.36million for the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme overall across the two Trusts.
3. How much money has been transferred from the Government and/or the NHS to the Trust to begin building the hospital?
Trust response: The expenditure above incurred has been fully funded by the national New Hospital Programme budget to enable us to develop the Royal Preston Hospital scheme on behalf of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary scheme, with investment in Furness General Hospital, on behalf of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.
4. Do you have planning permission to build the new hospital yet?
Trust response: No - at this stage planning applications have not yet been submitted. Work is underway to assess the viability of potential locations for new hospital builds for each of Royal Preston Hospital (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and Royal Lancaster Infirmary (University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust).
