Haverthwaite Surgery update

Haverthwaite Surgery is a GP practice in Backbarrow, near Ulverston, with a registered list size of just under 2,900 patients.

The surgery is based in premises built in 1992. Recently the landlord served a section 25 notice requesting the practice either signs a new lease which would make them responsible for funding repairs of the building or vacates the premises. The notice requests that the tenants vacate the premises by the end of November 2023. 

The practice has identified land and a building that could be converted into new premises near to the existing practice.

Representatives from the ICB have met with the landlord and the practice on numerous occasions in an attempt to resolve the situation. 

The ICB is currently working with the practice to develop an options appraisal for future service provision, particularly focusing on securing premises in the short (should the need arise) and longer term. The ICB understands the population and geographical characteristics of the area and wants to ensure that the needs of the population are met.
