B. Where an MRI scan has shown evidence of mechanical damage to the ligaments and/or cartilage. |
The NHSE EBI guidance criteria also contains 7 circumstances when endoscopic procedures will be undertaken. Most remain the same but with the following changes: management of patellofemoral pain syndrome (point A) has been removed as it is no longer considered effective and is now included as one of the circumstances when the CCG will not fund endoscopic procedures of the knee joint cavity (section 8.2 of the policy). Point B has been replaced and expanded with the circumstances below: - Where the patient has had an acute injury and an MRI scan reveals a potentially repairable meniscal tear. - There is evidence of mechanical damage to the ligaments which need repair/reconstruction. The criteria above will be added to the current policy criteria. |
