The Well Communities 10th anniversary

Date posted: 15th December 2022

The Well Communities celebrated its tenth anniversary in November with community members and partners from across Morecambe Bay.

Dave Higham who overcame his own struggles with addiction founded the Well Communities in 2012. The organisation has grown over the years to include supportive spaces in Barrow, Morecambe, Kendal and Fleetwood

The not-for-profit community interest company has helped hundreds of local people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction with therapy, counselling, peer mentoring, employment training and social activities.

The Well Communities is supported by its dedicated staff and volunteers, including Kerrie Higham, who is the Director of Operations. Kerrie was awarded an MBE in April after she was named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021 list.

At the group’s celebration event, Dave launched his book ‘Rat Hell to Rat Park’. The book reflects his life experiences that led him to set up The Well Communities and also provides a blueprint for support services through the development of the Core Conditions.
