Dementia Hubs set to reopen across Morecambe Bay

Special ‘Dementia Hubs’ for anyone affected by dementia across Morecambe Bay are set to restart following a period of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Are you living with dementia or are you a carer, family member or friend affected by dementia?  

You are welcome to go along and join one of the friendly hubs for a chat and refreshments in a relaxed environment. The hubs also offer lots of helpful information and support details. 

Dianne Smith, the Trust’s Dementia Matron, who also supports the hubs, wishes to let everyone know that they are restarting and put any dates in their diaries. COVID-19 infection prevention measures will be in pace at all of the hubs. 

The South Lakes Dementia Hub will take place on the following dates:  

  • Tuesday 13 July, Home Instead, Meadowbank House, Meadowbank Business Park, Shap Road, Kendal, LA9 6NY. 
  • Tuesday 10 August - Home Instead.  
  • Tuesday 14 September, Abbot Hall Social Centre, 1 Dowkers Lane, Kendal, LA9 4DN. 
  • Tuesday 12 October, Abbot Hall Social Centre.  
  • Tuesday 9 November, Abbot Hall Social Centre. 
  • Tuesday 14 December, Abbot Hall Social Centre. 

 The Abbot Hall Social Centre has some ongoing refurbishment work so the first two hubs being hosted at Home Instead, South Lakes, who have kindly offered the use of a room and will provide refreshments. 

Barrow and District Dementia Hub meets from 1pm to 3pm on the fourth Wednesday of every month at The Living Well Centre, on Duke Street in Barrow. 

The dates are as follows:  

  • Wednesday 28 July. 
  • Wednesday 25 August. 
  • Wednesday 22 September. 
  • Wednesday 27 October. 

The Barrow and District Dementia Hub offers the opportunity to talk to professionals from the NHS Memory Clinic, the Alzheimer’s Society, Integrated Care Communities, Age UK, Furness Carers, Dignity in Dementia, Barrow Blind Society, Barrow Fire Service,  Independent care service providers as well as information on local groups, activities and support services. The Bay Dementia Hub will restart fully in September and will be on the first Friday of the month from 1pm to 3pm at Lancaster Cathedral Hall. The Trimpell Club in Morecambe will reopen in October alternating every month. Further details for the Lancaster and Morecambe area will be shared as soon as they are available.
