Grand opening of new Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic

Date posted: 17th May 2019

Huge improvements have been made to the Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which launched on Friday with a celebratory ceremony.

The new clinic, which is based within the Day Treatment Centre at Royal Preston Hospital, comprises eight clinic rooms, a treatment room, a plaster room and an x-ray room. Office facilities have also moved into the Day Treatment Centre, allowing the team to centralise medical, nursing and administrative staff into one area, which has not only made the workings of the department more efficient, but has also had a positive effect on morale.  A new study facility for registrars and an office for the increasingly busy

Orthopaedic Spinal Rapid Access Service team have also been incorporated into the new facility.

Tony Helm, Clinical Director for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said: “Our existing clinic facilities were somewhat out of date, and the opportunity to move into refurbished facilities was most welcome by all of the team. We are certain that the new facilities will improve the patient experience in the department, and we are all really excited to be working in this newly refurbished space.”

Speaking at the grand opening on Friday; Steve Canty, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said: “We wanted to gather everyone together today to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been involved in the development of our new Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic. I would like to thank all of the support partners who have been instrumental in the launch of our new clinic from the capital team who have led the building scheme and moves to IT and telephony. They have all done an amazing job in creating this magnificent new space. I also want to say a special thanks to Lisa Barker and Louise Testa who have done a massive amount of work to make the new clinic a reality.”

Karen Partington, Chief Executive at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said, “We are delighted that we have been able to improve upon our previous facilities with our brand new Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank the whole team who have made this happen; it has been a real team effort. We are confident that this investment will improve patient experience within the department and improve the standard of care which we are providing.”
