Lancashire and South Cumbria Covid-19 Vaccination Programme Director Jane Scattergood said:

“The NHS is having to work at extreme pace to respond to this new variant and to put in place the next and most complex phase of the successful Covid-19 vaccination programme.

"Lancashire and South Cumbria benefits from a wide and varied range of services providing vaccinations to our citizens.  These include large-scale vaccination centres, hospital hubs, community pharmacies, pop-up clinics, home-visiting services, as well as our GP-led primary care networks.

"We are experienced in flexing the vaccination programme to meet changing need. We have seen this many times when we have rapidly scaled up activity in response to rising infection rates.  We are prepared and ready to draw on what we have learned in earlier phases of the vaccination programme to scale up once again to deliver an expanded booster programme across the many and varied vaccination services available to you.

"Following updated guidance from the JCVI, we are now working hard to plan and set out how we will expand the booster programme – this will include how booster jabs will be given in priority order so that the most vulnerable people are protected first, while also increasing capacity to vaccinate millions more people in a shorter space of time.

"The NHS will contact you when you are due to book in for your lifesaving booster vaccination, and when you get the call, it’s vital that people come forward as quickly as possible.

"The success of the vaccination programme in Lancashire and South Cumbria is thanks to our incredible workforce who have continued working hard to deliver the largest vaccination drive in our history, at the same time as providing care for everyone who needs it, with councils, community organisations and others playing an important role as strategic partners.

"And a very special thank you to the thousands of people who applied and trained for voluntary roles as part of the NHS Covid-19 vaccine team – we simply could not have done it without you. We do need more volunteers so if you can spare a few hours a week please sign up at - it's a great thing to do.”
